Dalbeattie hosts a number of small supermarkets as well as a handful of independent shops and cafes.


Castle Douglas (13 Miles from Barend)        Postcode: DG7 1LU
Known as ‘The Food Town’, Castle Douglas is well known locally for its abundance of independent shops and cafes.  Shops selling clothing, antiques, gift, homewares and furniture line the main street, there is also a good sized Tesco, Co-Operative & Wilko.

Dumfries (18 Miles from Barend)        Postcode: DG1 2BD
This is the best shopping location within 30 miles of Barend, the Loreburne Centre in the middle of the town houses shops such as Marks & Spencer, Poundland and Superdrug.  Within the town centre you can also find shops such as New Look, River Island and Boots  as well as a number of independent retailers and a wide selection of charity shops.
Dotted around the outskirts of Dumfries are a number of retail parks and large supermarkets.  You will be able to find retailers such as Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl as well as Matalan, TK Maxx, Dunelm Mill and B&M.


Gretna  (44 Miles from Barend)        Postcode: DG16 5GG
The Gretna Gateway Outlet Village has over 50 stores and cafes as well as abundant free parking and free WiFi.  There are plenty of bargains to be found here with shops such as Next Clearance, M&S Outlet, Cadbury Factory Shop, Gap Outlet, Clarks Outlet & Molton Brown.  Well worth stopping in on a journey to or from Carlisle, you can also get a train to Gretna from Dumfries, it is around a 10 minute walk from the train station to the Outlet Village.

Carlisle (53 Miles from Barend)        Postcode: CA3 8NX
If you don’t mind travelling a little further afield, Carlisle has a great range of shops, cafes and restaurants (Nando’s anyone?).  The Lanes Shopping Centre contains a majority of the shops including River Island, Next, H&M, HMV, New Look and a recently opened Primark.  There are also plenty of independent shops dotted around the city centre.
If you don’t feel like driving then a ‘Cheap Day Return’ train ticket between Dumfries and Carlisle will cost around £6.00 for an adult.
