Wildlife and Bird Spotting
Here in Dalbeattie we’re incredibly lucky as the surrounding area is full of wildlife. You can expect to see badgers, red squirrels, roe deer and a huge variety of birds; from birds of prey to woodpeckers, you can do your spotting from the comfort of your veranda – though Twitchers may want to bring their own binoculars!
The holiday lodges overlook the beautiful and rugged Barend Loch where you are welcome to fish (with barbless hooks only please) – we are told that a 14lb carp was once caught here! Take a short stroll, sit at the water’s edge, observe the wildlife and await the bite.
There are many other fishing sites in the region: http://www.welcometoscotland.com/things-to-do/activities/fishing/dumfries-galloway
Walking and Cycling
The immediate area of Dalbeattie is perfect for walking and cycling. This holiday resort is surrounded by picturesque countryside, quiet roads, lanes, tracks and coastal paths, but is also renowned for more technical mountain bike trails to challenge even the pro-cyclist. The larger area of Dumfries & Galloway has a host of cycling adventures to suit cyclists of every level including the famous mountain bike trail 7Stanes.
This is the sport that the French take very seriously – Petanque (or Boules). Challenge friends and family to a leisurely game or go all in with a competition.
*We provide each guest with bath and hand towels for the lodges but recommend bringing your own pool towel.
